Different typed of Mobos

I am considering to attempt building a pc in the future, but right now i'm still learning about all the parts.

I'm reading about motherboards and there are so many different types like Socket A, 939, 370, etc...and I don't understand the difference between them.

I don't expect any of you to list them out and go into extreme detail, but was wondering if anyone could provide me a link or direct me where I can get more info on this.

I know you didn't want them listed out, but here goes:

Socket A: AMD XP Processors
Socket 754: AMD Athlon 64 and Sempron processors
Socket 939: Amd Athlon 64 and FX Processors

Socket 478: Intel P4 processors
Socket T/775: Intel P4 processors (newer and better than s478, less heat)

Basically they just support different types of CPUs. In general, more pins=better

Sempron also has socket A :D socket 478 for Intel P4 A, B, C, E, EE and celeron D

Pentium D are dual core
Doesnt change the fact that Intel has moved on to the 8xx series :) which is definitely a step forwards unlike their 6xx series which seems to be a feature addon to the 5xxs

get and a64 socket 939 mobo they kick arse specially the nforce 4 chipsets
normally I reserve my abuse for Bobo :P (and he takes it and fights back, actaully it's kind of fun, don't know if he thinks the same though :P), but this is like the 10th thread I've seen where you posted AMD without a reason for it being better than anything else. Can't you say anything else?

LOL I normally do too (only for the 'tactical ambiguity' really) but this is getting quite stupid:
1. For a guy who touts AMD so much, do you remember this thread? http://www.computerforum.com/showpost.php?p=40112&postcount=3
2. For a guy who loves AMD so much you dont seem to know the first thing about their product line: http://www.computerforum.com/showpost.php?p=21305&postcount=8
3. In light of your AMD fanboyism this one doesnt even require comment http://www.computerforum.com/showthread.php?t=2231
4. You can pull website benchmarks left and right all you want but the ability to read is seriously questioned, http://www.computerforum.com/showthread.php?t=8098
5. While we're at it, a few more: http://www.computerforum.com/showthread.php?t=2329, http://www.computerforum.com/showpost.php?p=46952&postcount=11
6. For a guy who advocates AMD so much and planned on buying a nice 3500+ box (http://www.computerforum.com/showpost.php?p=16694&postcount=3) you seem to not match those words with action much .... having second thoughts about AMD?
7. This one's just plain funny http://www.computerforum.com/showpost.php?p=43841&postcount=1
8. For someone who thinks AMD trounces Intel left right and center you should know an awful lot about 'the enemy' -- or one might think: http://www.computerforum.com/showpost.php?p=39771&postcount=1 or http://www.computerforum.com/showpost.php?p=39962&postcount=1
9. I guess it understandable you dont know INtel so well considering youd be more interested in reading about AMD but then something like http://www.computerforum.com/showthread.php?t=6062 pops up leading to contradictions like http://www.computerforum.com/showpost.php?p=39884&postcount=3

Better yet, let him explain why they are better.
Fanboy nomination..
Ooooh damn .... tough call ... I can recall a certain Abit fanboy back in the day that would have some competitions .... oh wait he tried to explain things .... ok nevermind

cheaper that crappy intel and they run 64 bit
Yet you dont seem to realize Intel had 64bit procs before AMD.....

No to conclude: before you bash companies you know nothing about -- considering learning the terminology and the technology behind them because as a wise man said once, "it's far wiser to keep your mouth shut and have people think you a fool than to open it and prove them absolutely correct"
