Different versions of Windows XP?

Okay, I have windows XP on a laptop (I think it's Pro, but it might be home... I haven't checked). The Pro/Home thing is not what I am wondering about.

What is the difference between the 32 and 64 bit versions of Windows? I have always seen people talking about which one is better, but I don't even know what the 31/64 bit thing applies to. I haven't really payed attention to it.

I was told to reinstall windows XP with a different version because it would speed it up... is that true? Why/Why not?

If the current installation is working don't touch it. The differences between Pro and Home are almost "non existant" with the exception of a few dos system files thrown at the root of the OS drive and some added networking features. That's what the big humdrum on that is all about.

Comparing 32bit and 64bit versions of any OS is like comparing the changes seen when going from 95 to 98 to go from 16bit to 32bit. That was something Windows NT was already familiar with. It's not faster just more stable like 32 was over 16bit. Besides the 32bit versions of Home and Pro the 64bit version is Pro. The MCE 2005 edition followed those three.

I currently have both the Home and Pro versions running along with Vista where I can use the Pro sata drive along with a second sata to create a storage array while dual booting the Home version with Vista on two ide drives. The only time things speed up with "any" version of Windows is when you clean up the system registy, delete useless temp folders freeing up drive space for virtual memory, and disable things from starting up with Windows along the regular defrag of the hard drive, or simply wipe the drive and install a fresh copy of Windows on a new primary with a new registry. Other then that... horse crap! unless you also work with upgrading hardwares(cpu, memory, video, sound).
