Difficulty reading codes

Hello,

I'm new here and got a minor problem when trying to register at some sites. The registration forms require you to type in exactly what it says in a "security code box", which includes letters and numerals (some letters are small cased or in capitals). On a few sites I'm always having problems with these codes, because they're typed incorrectly and I have to do it again. The new codes are also difficult to read. Some have doodle marks over them but I always confuse them with the codes as I can't tell the difference. I end up not registering at some sites because I can't read the security codes. Also I was told that these codes are designed to stop spamming bots from registering but people like me also can't read them. It's crazy! Eiher that or I'm a machine that cannot compute! Does anyone else have trouble with security codes?

Security Codes, or Captchas, as they are known, can be a pain to read. Sometimes you just have to keep trying until you get one that is easier to read. Some of them have a button that says "click here to read aloud" and you can listen to the numbers; you may want to try that.

first of all, welcome to the computer forums..:)
second...security check boxes (captchas) are usually verified and confirmed with letters that are lowercase and with no spaces..

i've personally had some trouble with them, until i found out that captial letters and spaces don't matter..

Captchas are crap, although meant to differentiate between humans and computers, I have 20/20 vision and still find it hard at times. Nearly 10% of the population are colour blind and more than that has sight deterioration.

Look at this site for one to think about, sometimes I get it first time and others !! http://slashdot.org/login.pl?op=mailpasswdform

Hi there,
Glad to know I'm not the only one with this problem. I guess it's to stop dyslexics and ppl with poor vision from joining sites, lol.

I don't normally have THAT much trouble with them... sometimes I miss it the first or second time, but never so bad to keep me from registering somewhere.

Or you could just use.. http://www.bugmenot.com/ to bypass all those pesky registration sites! Never register again with this handy site that has a list of active usernames and passwords from real people! I'll say!

Umm, it is a nice site... :)
