Hi all,

I recently just purchased a new desktop computer and have been trying to network it to my old laptop via a NETGEAR ethernet switch so that i can transfer my files across but i am having troubles getting it to work. the laptop is running XP and showing "limited or no network connectivity" and the desktop is running vista and is showing the same thing...

anyone have any ideas on how to get the two talking to each other?

cheers, kain.

basically you have to make sure that both PC's have the same network address except for the last octet ( last 2 digits)
they both have to be in the same workgroup
for file sharing the log on account for each pc has to also be on the other pc, or you will be asked for the credentials of someone on the pc you are trying to access the share.

hi

first of all check urs ethernet cables that u prepared for the pcs.
if the physical cables are ok and according to the standard method than try to put ip address for both of computers and than check.

i hope it will solve yours problem

i dont know how to go about changing the ip addresses. last time i set up a network it was between two computers running xp and i just ran the network setup wizard and it worked...

hi

there is an icon of network connection on the task bar with the volume option just double click that one and then go to properties in the properties there is an option
internet protocol (tcp/ip)

click on that one and go to properties and check the "use following ip address" option and put the ip address for both computers.

and than check it will work

do i configure the internet protocol version 6 or version 4. also can i just type in anything to the ip address and do i need to put anything into the other two fields below?
