Hey guys...I fried my Intel p4 about a month ago, sent it to Intel, and...They sent me a brand new one, free of charge. I already bought a new AMD Athlon 64 3500+ Venice core. So now I have 2 CPU's and 2 mobo's, one computer (other parts). So I am torn as to what to do. With my new AMD I have had a problem that I cant figure out, but with my Intel I had huge overheating issues. So I'm trying to decide whether to sell my AMD on eBay, sell the Intel on eBay, or keep them both and use one of them in my brothers computer (which would be like me paying 300 dollars for his computer). Also, I dont game like ever, and I do video editing and stuff, ao Intel is a good fit for that. But it overheats, and I cant leave my computer on long. Maybe I could try the Big Typhoon again...Anyway, what would you guys do? Vote and tell me what you think.

Thanks,
Derek

keep them both and use the AMD in my computer... jk
what about selling it all and getting whatever you feel like?
but if not... give the AMD to ur bro(cus thatwould be nice:) )... and keep the intel for ur video editing(cus intel is better for your thing...)...

Lol...I'm thinkin about doing that, just keeping them both. Thanks for the advice. Anyone else?

BTW, I have a ton of new respect for Intel, they were very speedy and awesome with a new CPU.

Intel is a bit better for video editing, yes, but recently, the processor are pretty evenly matched anymore. I think when comparing with the Athlon 64's and most P4's, the Athlons are better overall when at comparable speeds. If it were me, I'd keep the AMD just because they tend to be better and run cooler. Though, maybe you could sell it then the AMD a little later and get that new intel coming out ;)

Keep the Intel.. if it's a brand new chip, it may not overheat. Perhaps yours was faulty. I'd test run the Intel first, see how it works. If it overheats, perhaps sell it, or give it to your bro if he doesn't mind his chip frying.

i dont think you will have anymore heating problems. Intel has fixed the problem and the only P4's that have the heat problem are the earlier ones. since you got a new one i think you wont have the heat problem anymore.

i say keep both and make a second computer. so if one does fail you have a back-up one

It really depends on which Intel CPU you're talking about. The Intel sounds better suited to your tasks, though. And what's the problem with your AMD that you can't figure out?

Yeah, I believe that's a problem that they had before, and is probably why they sent you a new one without much hassle... :)

Heya. Well, i would just take the CPU for a test spin, but I would have to reformat my hard drive. So its not that simple. But you guys do think they fixed the overheating problem? I hope so, because it drove me crazy, I had to turn my computer off if I left the room. And my AMD problem is that sometimes when I turn on my computer nothing comes up on the monitor, and when i run certain programs it just goes blank. And I never had these problems before I got the AMD CPU and mobo. Well, I am pretty sure I want to keep my Intel, and sell the AMD. I will just save all my crap to a DVD and then install the new CPU. Thanks!

Derek

I would take a look at your cases cooling effeciency. Something isn't right if they are both overheating without a load.

They arent both overheating. My AMD runs at 30 C Idle. But now I am having second thoughts, I think I am going to keep my AMD, just because of the hassle and the better cooling. Also, I'm worried my mobo for the Intel may have been damaged with it. So I dont know, i just wish I could fix the problem I'm having with my current CPU.
