Hey, I have a little question. I had a new mobo and CPU, and occassionally my screen would go black. I put in my other mobo/cpu, and the problem is fixed. And it sucks, because I changed from AMD to Intel, so i couldnt do one component at a time. So my question is, out of the CPU and mobo, which one most likely caused the black screen (I need to figure out the most likely one to RMA, so I dont waste shipping money) Any suggestions? And be serious in the poll, i need to figure out which one to send back.

Thanks,
Derek

Hmmm

I would bet more on the MOBO causing the problem because processors rarely go bad like that. However, I suppose you did not do some OCing or things like that.

Really, from your description...there isn't any way to tell.

So, i'll "bet" it's the Mobo as well. But that's just a guess, not an answer.

Thanks for the replies guys. I forgot to say they were both brand new. And for future reference, here was the full problem: Occasionally, when I would turn on the computer, everything would turn on, but nothing came up on the screen. I turned it off, and it worked. Then, it happened every single time in FreshDiganose program after a couple minutes in there. Also, it happened once in RealPlayer while playing a movie. Every time the monitor would just go black. Anyway, thanks for the help.

P.S. Sweet Cody, your like the first one on here who says they really like them. I cant wait for next season!

Yeah, I'm hoping they could do whole lot better than last season. Anyway, why did you get RealPlayer because it could cause lots of problem, sometimes. I just rather to use VLC program to watch DvDs or Window Media Player 10 to play video and music :)

PS. RealPlayer is annoying, to me...

If the CPU is "broken" then you wouldn tbe able to boot. As a side note, its quite humorous to see people always suggest broken CPUs as a culprit)

I put in my other mobo/cpu, and the problem is fixed.
If the problem is fixed then.....

Any suggestions?
Its neither the mobo nor the CPU?

No, the problem is fixed when I put in my other motherboard and CPU. So, that would mean it was one of the two, right?

I dont understand, You dont think its either one?

Could be power, could be a second rate OS install...

Well do you have reason to think it is? (and if you did, you wouldnt need to make this poll to start with). Since you dont, almost anything can be to blame still :)

Yeah, I know it's either between CPU and mobo. Here are my reasons:

Tested brand new video card, same problem.
Ran MemTest86, 0 errors.
Didnt reformat with new mobo, so it is the same install as the problematic one.

So that leaves mobo, cpu, and PSU. So I suppose PSU is a possibility, but the problem isnt occurring now, so I assume that wasnt it. But would you agree that the CPU isnt the cause, because the computer wouldnt work if the CPU was faulty in any way? Thanks for the help everyone.
