I was looking at Direct2Drive, and noticed they have Warhammer and Warhead, but they both say (Pre-Order), but both games came out today..

And should I get Warhead through Steam, Direct 2 Drive, or pick it up in the store? Same thing with Warhammer, Direct 2 Drive or in store.

Edit:
Steam doesn't even have Warhead able to download, yet, though EBGames has it to buy it in the store I guess.

Will the online versions be available tomorrow?

Thanks.

But Direct 2 Drive is the same process, and I got COD4 through Steam, and had to mess with my registry in order to update it.

I'll give D2D a chance.

Please forgive me for asking but Why does D2D charge the same price for a DL game as a packaged product that has a DVD/CD ,booklet ,packaging, transport logistics and maybe other items I am leaving out.Seems like your just paying for data and making the companies even more profit than they have allready with a game package that probably cost $4 or $5 to make.Dont get me wrong I think they should make a profit to prosper and stay in business as well as have a deep list of game titles always coming our way to make the game industry better ,I just dont understand why it isnt much cheaper with the lack of overhead they have.

Steam and Direct 2 Drive have Crysis Warhead for roughly the same price. I don't usually go into the store and buy games, and ever since I got COD4 through Steam in December, I've downloaded every game I got since then.

Even if it was a little more than the store, I wouldn't mind, as long as it was a reasonable increase, I'm getting it faster.

I planned on getting Warhammer in the store, since I couldn't find it online, but I remembered Direct 2 Drive, checked and it was there, so.

I'm going to do some more research on D2D before I purchase any games from there, like see how I update the games and stuff.

A reasonable price for any of those products should be half or so due to no overhead. The companies are saving a fortune with no actual packaging ,no shipping costs, no extras even though maps and "trinkets" they give you are somewhat corny,I like having the disc so that if I loose my data/HDD I can just DL it again on a new one.Hehe well to each his own I guess it will keep them in business easier,LOL.Even "Darkfall" could make a profit this way :D

stay away from direct 2 drive, they are scum, they won't send your key and they won't reply to your pm's, that happened to me a few days ago when i bough company of heroes.

Why no just go to a local gamestop and buy it

This another fear of mine; you pay the same money as a packaged product and receive nothing, good point chupacabra, sorry for your lost funds maybe you could contact the local BBB(where they are listed as a business) and see if they can do anything to recover your money?

I've purchased two games - Oblivion and Jericho - through D2D without any issues. If you ever lose the installation files, you can log into your account and re-download the zip files. They store your activation keys in your account as well.

Ahh okies Mep I didnt know that they did that . I would still like to have my own Packaged DvD game though myself ..I still stand behind that they should give you guys a break since the overhead is almost nonexistant in a DL'ed copy though to be asking full retail price ;)

Yeah, I hear ya. I'm guessing the developers charge them the same as retailers...

If the online was cheaper, wouldn't everyone go and buy it online?

Like buying/downloading MP3's, instead of buying the CD.

I'm downloading Warhead through Steam, and am still considering Warhammer..

Wrong, even if the retail was 2 bucks more, they would buy the dvd, since they wouldn't have to download for hours and hours to get the client.

if you have gotten games before through steam or direct 2 drive than do that but if you think you might have some trouble or not sure that its reliable then get from the stores i prefer to get them through UN less its like cheaper and have gotten it before from there

Hours and hours? lol.

Works for me, since I have high speed broadband.. Only takes about an hour, maybe an hour and a half to download..

What happens if you lose your installation DVD?

And Direct 2 Drive has a connection with GameSpy, btw.

Some people(myself included) like to have a "kit" that we can hold in our hand. For instance if you are playing a RPG or a MMORPG, a fold out detailed map that you can look at while you are exploring or a manual that you dont have to go into adobe reader to view while you are playing .I hate having to ALT/TAB to look up things while I am gaming. There is probably some other things that I am forgetting but those are the main ones.

That's a good point. I have so many different software disks that I prefer digital installations when possible.

But you do not take in account for their server maintenance to keep those data files and the bandwidth for when they need to be re-downloaded and/or updated.

Most of us in the US have unlimited bandwith (unless you're w/ Comcast :P), but I can see how that could be an issue overseas. Ultimately, the DVD with the box is the safest route. I guess I kinda like to live on the edge. :P
