Directx error call of duty 4

i have windows xp and whenever i run cod4 it loads my profile then while loading the game it freezes and prompts directx error i have a dell inspirion 1520 laptop
c2d 2.0 ghz
1gb 667mhz ram
256 mb onboard graphic card
pls help me i m using directx9 c the one we get woth call of duty itself i have installed that directx
 
i also have another prob i cant find graphic card drivers for my card can u tell me how to find out which graphic card i have so i can download apropriate drivers
 
^^ i sense a poor gpu coming here

i got direct x errors for bf2 when i had a geforce mx4 XD

the card wasn't good enough to support the game this might be the problem here
 
you can right click on your desktop->properties-> tab on the right-> it will say something like "Monitor on default graphics adapter...." thats your card
 
I know the problem. Re-installing your DX9 is not an option. CoD4 does not support with integrated graphics. I've tried it but with no luck. I then bought myself a 9600 GT and it works like a charm.
 
If your vid card is really old then maybe it doesnt support direct x 9c. right click my computer and choose properties then go to hardware and device manager now click the little plus sign next to Display Adapters now you should be able to see what video card your pc is using ,please post it here.

i have the same problem i have got directx 9.0c but it dosent work i reinstalled it many times but it didnt work
I have windows XP professional with intel pentium dual core 1.86 ghz and a ram of 0.99GB i have video card of 965 express chip set family help me

In future please start a new thread rather than bump one over 4 years old. Will let it slide this time as to be fair to you, your issue is relevant.

Download the DX runtime from here http://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/download/details.aspx?id=35

And download the latest Intel drivers from here: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=18774&ProdId=2800&lang=eng

DX just run the setup file, it will install and update as necessary. With the graphics drivers, navigate to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and uninstall the Intel 965 Chipset Display Drivers. Restart, install the graphics drivers that you downloaded, restart again and try again
