Directx HELP!!!!

long story short my directx is well and truely screwed i got a program called 'directx buster' and it has buggered it up. ive tried installing directx through the official site (didn't work because of my version of windows ) ive tried through download.com, through bearshare ive re-installed 2 games and it still is saying that i only have directx 7 when i need the latest version. i do not know what is wrong and i really need some help!! please help me!!!!!

wow. the many attempts at uninstalling directx isn't that great.. are u running 95 or 98? from what i know i believe its for windows 95/98/2000/ME only.. directx and their files are deeply embedded in windows that the only possible/good way to remove is through formatting.. if you have tried downloading directx 9 and reinstalling it and had no hope.. you can try restoring your setup to a previous state if you have windows xp.. if not, you can try using the program again to try uninstalling directx again.. its already messed up, so theres no sense it not trying it again..
