How can I disable autorun CD feature in windows xp?
I clicked on 'don't take any action' for that but then also it runs the CD when i insert the CD in drive.

I'm not positive that this is the same...I'm using Windows 98, but in Windows 98 when you put a CD in you hold down the Shift key until the lights on the CD-ROM have gone out and it won't autorun, it may be the same in XP

Open Regedit, go to key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Services/Cdrom and change the Autorun entry from 1 to 0.

thanks
opened regedit, did it, and got d prob. solved. this was what i wanted.

actually in windows 98 i could do that easily with out using regedit. there was something like 'auto isertion notification' (if i am right), somewhere in system properties!

The 'pressing shift' idea was for temp. use.

In fact there's an easier way to disable it: open My computer, right-click on cd-rom, select properties, Autoplay tab, check "Select an action to perform" and select "Take no action". Repeat this for every content type.
