disabling integrated graphics

I am currently working on my uncle's computer and he has a gateway gt5228 with a FIC K2BC51 Motherboard with NVIDIA GeForce 6100 Chipset. He had a gefore 7600gs plugged into the pci express slot and it was working until one day he turned on the computer and nothing came up on the screen. He then used the integrated VGA port on the motherboard and then the computer would display fine. He bought a new graphics card and it gave him the same problem.

This is where I am stumped. I looked in the BIOS for a way to disable the integrated graphics and found that there was no such option, so I thought it was an automatic feature that would be disabled if a card was inserted in the PCI express slot. The card's fan starts up just fine and work in a different machine I put it in, there just is no display on my uncle's gateway. I have tried different monitor cables and have had no luck.

I am going to look at the power supply and see if there is a problem with it not getting enough power, but if it wasn't wouldn't the fan not start up either? are there any other things I can check for? is there a way to see if the pci express slot is bad?

Thank you

A computer BIOS defaults to switching to the dedicated card before going for integrated. Try some of these:

1. Reset CMOS (probably has a jumper)
2. Reset BIOS settings to defaults (from the BIOS menu)
3. While you normally can't just disable the int. gfx, there is normally an option to set the priority, look for that.

I removed the battery from the motherboard for a few minutes to reset the motherboard but that had no affect. I'll have a deeper look into the BIOS and see if there is anything I missed. Could the card be under powered and cause it not to display even though the fan is on?
