Is there a type of disc image that allows you to break the data into smaller pieces? I want to put a DVD image i made onto my external hard drive, but it's FAT32 file system won't allow me to store any files over 4 GB...
If so, what program would do the job?
 
This topic's a bit questionable, but I guess it's ok...

For one, why do you have a drive formatted to FAT32? You've already hit one of the major drawbacks of it :P You really should consider formatting to NTFS unless you plan to use that drive with a Windows 98 system or something.

As for dividing up the file, most any compression utility would do so. I'm pretty sure WinRAR would take any file and split it up into however many sub-files you wanted.
 
im not sure if this is your question, but Norton ghost will allow you to split the size of the image, and it will also allow you to edit the image and add things in later on.

Are you making an image of the whole system? For back ups or what?
 
Format to NTFS? I didn't realize you could change the file system like that. Is that just something I can do with windows? (I have XP professional).

The disc image is just a bunch of funny videos I've downloaded (podcasts) and I wanted to put them on a dvd so me and my friend can watch them at his house with the dvd player. I just wanted to keep the disc image because I still have plenty of room on the external drive and I'll probably end up burning it again.
I know how to break the file up with WinRAR, but i still want it in a usable format on the drive, kind of like a .cue file paired with a .bin file, only I want more than one .bin file if possible...
 
If you go to the format dialog you can see the "File System" option. Plus someone posted on an earlier post about a command to change your drive's file system... Sorry, I'm already past it ^^;
 
if thats all you want to do, you can use nero to make an ISO of whatever and then use something like winrar since it can open up and read ISOs, and it can split it into many different multiple file sizes. For example if you can only send 10mb attachments, you can chop up a 100mb file into 10 x 10mb files via winrar.

Ghost is more intuiative and it costs money. Its more of a data back up and imaging solution
