Disk 1 Not initiated...

Ok so heres whats happening,

I have a 200GB Maxtor external Hard drive, i plugged it into my USB, and my computer says it is found, installed and everything, yet the hard drive does not appear in My Computer. I went to disk management and tried to initiate it but it will not do it. I can provide further details if needed. I REALLY NEED HELP!! Please and Thank You!!!!

I get no error message, the management just doesn't do anything. If I click initialize it beneath disk one it says not initialized.
 
Have you ever used this HDD before, or is this the first computer you (or anyone) will ever have used it on?

Does this specifically say that the disk is not initialized? Because, there is a good chance the drive is already initiated if its been used before.
Does the drive show unallocated space?

Before I get off, I want to tell you this:
If the drive is initiated, maybe its simply not being mapped. Right click on the drive and click on the Change drive letter/path button. Add in your own manual drive letter that's unused. Say, try U: (Or whatever the hell you like :) )

I'm hoping that's your problem. Otherwise, if everything you said about its not being initiated is true, it could possibly be serious :/
