Disk Boot Failure

So when I woke up this morning and turned on my desktop computer, I got to the usual windows log-in screen and logged in.. right as Windows was about to start up, I got a blue screen saying error. So I just restarted the computer, then instead of windows booting up I got a black screen saying: "DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER"

It does this everytime I try to boot up my computer. Did my harddrive just randomly die on me? I was using my computer all yesterday and it was doing just great.. Then this happens. Is there a way I can try to fix this, or am I going to have to buy a new HD and lose 200gb worth of data? :(

yeah, it sounds like your harddrive might have died. you can boot from a Windows disk and press R to repair from a prompt, then type chkdsk /r and press enter
let it run, it might work

I tried running chkdsk /r in the windows recovery console, and it got to 25% complete until it said "The volume appears to contain one or more unrecoverable problems." And the scanning stopped from there. Could it possibly be a bad IDE cable or something? Or is the Hard Drive seriously dead?
