Disk Boot Failure

I recently got a new case for an old PC that I built. Before I switched the cases it worked just fine. Now it comes up with a disk boot failure when I turn it on. The thing is that, sometimes it will boot up and sometimes it wont. I have windows 7 on it, although I am using the same operating system with the same product key. Due to the fact I haven't been able to purchase a new one yet. Would this be the problem?

You are using the same hardware in a different case? How old is your power supply?

You might want to try unplugging power supply wires to your hard drives and then plugging them all back in.

Unless you did something like drop the HDD while you were moving it from one case to another, there isn't any reason why it shouldn't work. I agree with 2048Megabytes, check the HDDs power and data cables to ensure they are fully inserted. Also make sure the data cable is fully inserted at the mobo end too.

Disk boot failure either means you have a failing hard drive or possibly loose connnections, has nothing to do with using the same key twice. If you are using the retail install cd then to be legal the operating system must be uninstalled from the original pc.

Are you using the HDD with a different motherboard? If so, that could affect things but if you are getting a disk boot failure you aren't even getting to the point where the Product Key would come into play.
