Disk Boot Failure

hey computer forum,

My second computer was running fine last night and this morning when I turn it on it gives me the error message

DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER

now, I have never had to use a system disk before to boot the computer

I'm sure it has something to do with the bios, but I cant figure out how to get into the bios on this computer

it is an Ausu P4b266 Mobo

any help on how to get into the bios or if you have a different solution that would be great

The manual that comes along with the board on a custom or with the system for prebuilt will provide instructions on bios settings. On most boards simply pressing the DEL key a few times when the system first starts up will see the bios setup screen appear. You would look under the integrated peripherals or boot order section if seen right away to change the boot order. The manual will provide the specifics to follow. For Asus look in the Hardware Configuration section there too.

The most common problem seen for that message on older systems using flat ribbon type ide cables is just that. The cable gets dryed out and useless. If it wasn't somehow loose from having been inside the case and bumping a harness not likely there simply try a new one. Sometimes the contacts get a little polluted with dust and dirt causing this.

One reason for often advising going with Antec Cobra round ide cables is that those take a beating and stay good from case to case. I just spotted one sale for under $3- for those that usually run anywhere from $9.99 upto $18 at some sites. They get you with the shipping on them however.
