I just got a new hard drive and want to clone my old one to it. Does anyone know any good (hopefully free) software for this? Also nay tips on making the clone a success would be great...

Yup can be done with gparted
Its free and easy to use, just a case of downloading it, burning it to a CD, installing your new HDD as a slave drive, booting up the gparted CD, then use the copy function to copy one partition on the HDD to another (also remember to set the drive as a boot drive in the gparted software too). Take out old HDD and set new one as primary. Job done.
Also if your getting a bigger disk (say your current one is 40gb and your new one is 80gb) you can increase the partition size in gparted too.
