Disk Repair (almost) every boot.

About every 1/3 times I boot, I get the "Scanning and Repairing Drive E:" Message. It stays at 0% for hours - I've left it on while I was at work and still 0% when I return.

I had a Hdd fail a little while ago. I was trying to recover it, but it seems toast. I think that may be the problem. The Repair lists the drive as E: yet when I go to Disk Management, there is no drive E: shown. If I run "chkdsk E:" from the Command Prompt, the message comes back as "Cannot open volume for direct access." :/

Anyways, how can I tell Windows 8 to stop attempting repair to a drive that (it believes) doesn't exist?

Thanks.
