Disk space problems, need help.

Hi, for some reason there is a mass amount of disk space on my c drive. It says I have 222GB of space used, and only 10.7GB of free space.

I dont know what is causing this.

At one point i had, Age of Conan, World of Warcraft, Half Life 2 and Team Fortress 2 installed with a fair amount of space left.

Now all I have is WoW installed (getting ready for xpac) and I'm having this problem.

I deleted some cookies which freed up the current space I have now, prior to that I had only around 3GB of free space.

Does anyone have a solution or know what could be causing this?

downloaded and ran, only cleaned like 600MB of space.

Theres still 221GB used up and I have no Idea why.

XP pro or home?

Well you may want to go ahead and install the support tools pack from MS on your machine found here:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...76-9bb9-4126-9761-ba8011fabf38&displaylang=en

The once that is installed you can do a search for what is eating up your HD space from the command line

Code:
diruse /M /q:1.5 /* C:\

You can also look into third party, I would also turn on view all files from tools > folder options so you can see hidden files. I would also check in C:\Documents and Settings\temp I may be off on my path there because I don't have a windows machine around me to check. However, temp files can run amuck and eat up HD space.

run the command from the command line like I posted and it will display the disk usage of every folder under C:\ and it should show you the culprit.

189669.71 MB in Documents and Settings ...but I cannot find the 2 files that make up that many MB..

15324.83 MB in Program Files is another big one, but it just gives the general location..I've already deleted any big files in there so I dont know what im missing.

Turn on invisible files from the tools and folder options in the explorer window. There are temp folders where you can delete all that is inside see if that makes a difference.

The Documents and Settings folder is the majority of the space. Apparently 185GB worth is in there somewhere, I wouldn't worry about Program Files, it's tiny in comparison. Have you downloaded videos or a ton of music? Also, if deleting cookies cleared up nearly 7GB of space you defiently have a runaway Temporary Internet Files folder that you should look into. CCleaner should have cleaned it up but it will probably happen again.

There is also an application support folder which is hidden which keeps logs on application crashes and what not. it can also run crazy and eat up space. You can delete all those temp files with in those folders and I don't think apps like CC Cleaner actually touch all of that stuff.

CCleaner got all that stuff, im up to 23GB of free space and down to 209GB of used space from like 230 or something.

I really appreciate all the help you guys have given me but im not sure what else is eating up all this space.

Perhaps reformatting, even though im dreading that, will get me back to normal and with all this new information you guys have given me I can keep my PC in tip top.

As I sort of said before (it kind of got lost as I changed up my post), if you have a downloads, music or videos folder you are actively using in My Documents that's probably a big contributer to the size of Documents and Settings. It really shouldn't be 180GB. Even if you are using MS Office Voice recognition or something similar it wouldn't explain why there's so much data there.

you'll just have to dig it out. keep on going deeper into the folder structure with the diruse command. Eventually you'll find what's causing the trouble.

Did you once do what I asked and turn on invisible folders and look at the temp folders? I don't have access to a windows machine right now so I can't remember the full file paths but they are in c:\documents and settings under the All Users and your User account

Does it list what it deletes? I don't like a program just deleting stuff off my comp, I would rather i do it that way nothing gets botched in the process.
