Display driver

Help! I accidently deleted my video display adapter and it is gone from my recycle bin. Now when I boot, XP Pro displays and loads then the screen goes blank. Is there a way to restore the driver without loosing my data? If I have the driver written to a CD, will the system pick it up when I boot? Thanks for any help you may provide.

Windows hardware detection should have prompted for video drivers on the first restart. In fact XP's own vga driver should have some desktop appearing. The safe mode with command prompt only may be the way to repair this by starting the system restore process to go back a few days before this happened. You get to that through the F8 option upon initially booting the system right after the post tests and before XP starts loading. The following MS link will give instructions to follow for the manual restore. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;304449&sd=tech

Wow, Sucks to be you :D, I think you probably deleted the VGA driver, which i think (not completely sure) is like the default video driver that loads the display a startup. There is a way to fix the problem, but I forgot. sorry, I can't be of anymore help, hope you manage to resolve the problem soon....

boot into safe mode and reinstall the correct video driver for the card. Hopefully you know what card you have. download the driver from a different computer.
