Display Keeps Turning Off

Hi all,

I have a pre-built Asus PC that's less than a year old. There's an NVIDIA GeForce GT 545 installed in it.

Whenever I play a game, even one like Minecraft the gameplay starts to get laggy and then the screen goes blank. A few times the computer has rebooted itself and when it turns back on it looks like the resolution has changed. It can also get quite noisy when the display has turned off.

The reason I have posted in this section is because it seems very like it is a problem with the graphics card. I'm not positive though..

Any help would be very appreciated! :)

Have you got up to date nvidia drivers installed ?

Have you got any software installed to monitor the temps of your graphics card ?

The nvidia drivers weren't up to date, I'm downloading them now :)
I don't have any software to monitor the temperature what could I use? :)

I updated the nvidia drivers. Then installed HWMonitor.

I started up minecraft with HWMonitor running beside it. The temperatures went to over 100 degrees Celsius with the graphics card fan at 100% then the display cut out and the computer rebooted itself. Once I selected 'Start Windows Normally' nothing came up after that.

I would say your initial hunch of faulty graphics card was correct, do you have any onboard graphics or a spare graphics card you could try.

I brought it into a local computer repair shop, great guys in there. Turned out the heatsink on the GPU was broken, so they're going to replace it. Saves me from having to buy a new one! :)

Thanks for your help! :)
