Want to make full use of your pc?
Why not get involved in distributed computing?
Distributed computing projects use your cpu idle time to perform complicated analytical/scientific tasks.
Major work is broken down into bite size chunks so a desktop pc is capable of processing the data.
With enough computers doing the work it can be the equivalent (to the projects) of having a supercomputer.
There are loads of projects encompassing the fields of biology/disease/science/mathematics/internet etc etc.
Hopefully these projects will provide us with a better understanding of the likes of Alzheimers/Cancer/Aids/Parkinsons disease etc etc.
Anyway, if you are interested in helping these projects out here are a few useful links:

My personal projects of choice at the moment are Folding@home and the Seasonal Attribution (climate prediction) project.
Which project is for you???
