Hello everyone,
Lately ive been having troubles with my internet connection. usually it works fine but sometimes Internet explorer will stuff out. it says the whole cannot find server (or page or whatever it is). when that happens i can restart my computer (toshiba laptop) and put the plug on the router/adsl 2 modem and replug it and it usually starts working as advertised again. ive been reading some of these threads for a similar problem and hopefully a solution. i installed firefox but the other day and thought everything was fine (i thought IE was f*cked somehow) but i just started having the same with firefox (couldnt connect). i went into IE options > advanced and selected "show friendly Http error messages" and now when IE carks it, it says at the bottom of the page "DNS error (and possible server problem or something like that). i think i have messed up a setting as ive got heaps of anti virus/trojan/spyware stuff and ive done heaps of scans with nothing serious showing up. can someone help me please. ill post a hijack this log and hopefully you guys can see something that is causing this...

Is it just IE that doesn't work or can you not use anything that needs an internet connection? Do you use a proxy? if so check it is right and check your ip etc are all correct by start>run>cmd>ipconfig /all

Sam

Just try restarting the router next time. See if the connection comes back. If it does, it is the routers problem.

i think i fixed it. i had my dns server the same as my default gateway. i changed it to the preferred and alternate dns server numbers that my isp gave me and things are going good. i dont know why it only started playing up recently as its been set like that for ages. cheers fellas
