Hello,
I'm new here and got a question straight away.
My boyfriend and I both visited a certain forum using different computers and different accounts (we had our own seperate board membership accounts there btw).
One day my boyfriend disagreed with some of the forum posters there, even the mods and admin got involved. I was the only one defending my bf and agreeing with him. Aside from that soap opera stuff, some technical weird things happened. The following day or so we both talked on the phone and decided to meet up in that forum so we can communicate via private messaging. After logging in, the pages wouldn't load up so I couldn't read the posts, pm him or log off. And he was experiencing the same thing. We had this problem for a couple of weeks with that board so we assumed the forum was having tech problems.
Later I realised that whenever I wasn't logged in but just browsing the forum as a guest, it was working perfectly. All the other hundreds of posters had been posting regularly all the time and no one reported a problem with the site that I could tell. I started to think that it was both of our user accounts who were only affected. I told him about this and he thought I was being a little paranoid, for how could a forum admin do this? We still couldn't use the forum and whenever we logged in the pages would never load up anymore.
We both decided to register under different new accounts to see if I was right.... and after logging into our new accounts the forum was working perfectly!!! Looking at our older accounts it doesn't tell anyone that we were banned or suspended, however the admin clearly didn't want us there. Why didn't they just ban us? because we've been posting there for some time and became senior members, and a few intelligent people liked us. To ban us for no reason at all would make the forum less popular.
Now could someone here tell me how this forum was able to bug both of our older accounts please? What technology can do this, to enable a forum admin to freeze a members account? The forum is powered by vBulletin so do they have the answers? Is any of this commonplace or would the admin had to have bought software to do it? Do forums have the ability to block/freeze an active members account?
