Do I need a line rental for just broadband? (UK)

Basically I've realised I know nothing about actually connecting up to the internet from scratch.

I will be moving into a flat and need to set up a broadband connection. I'm not interested in a landline phone. And I'm confused as to what to do with the line rentals. Do I need to get one out in my name as well as the standard broadband packages?

Regards,
Toby

You will have to contact the local internet provider and see what is required, as not all services require an actual landline now.

Thanks. I checked Sky's website and Virgin's. Using my Postcode I can't get Sky's or Fibre Optic. :( Guess I've got to shell out the line rental for about £10/pcm. Ah well.

Unless there's any other options anyone can think about? :)

You can buy a dongle from 3 that i think does not require any line rental at all,It just uses the dongle and thats it.

And your not tied to a 12month contract,They do a 1 month contract for £15 on a 5Gb data allowence package here.

The third one down.

I think other companies such as Orange,Vodaphone also do these dongles...worth a look.
