Do I need a liquid cooler for my CPU?

I was going to buy an AMD 8150 which I was told does not need a liquid cooler if it's not overclock which is at 3.6 GHz. If I buy an AMD 8120 which runs native at 3.1 GHz and I overclock it to 3.6 GHz will I need a liquid cooler?

Same chip and cooler just one is set to a lower clock, only reaon for water or good air cooler is if you want it past 4.5GHz. I still say wait for piledriver at the end of the month or better yet get a i5, did you ever answer if you live near a microcenter?

you do not need water cooling unless you want to go absolutely apeshit crazy with the OC (5.2GHz + in most cases). Air will be better for pretty much any lower OC. Heck a 212 EVO, while dangerous temps, would run 4.8GHz on a 2600k. A better cooler would probably run it at 5.2 or so.

You won't need liquid cooling for a 500MHz overclock, but be aware that the 8120 can overclock way further than 3.6GHz. You could hit around 4.5GHz with a good air cooler.

Only buy liquid cooling if you want to go crazy with the overclocking, otherwise, buy an air cooler and save the money for a rainy day.
