do i need to drill a hole in my case?

so, newegg delivered my new toy in record speed and i'm well on my way to getting it put together (knock on wood).

my question:
i understand to only put a riser in the case if there is a corresponding insulated hole in the motherboard.

but i seem to have an insulated hole in the motherboard without a corresponding hole for a riser in my case.

do i need to drill a hole in my case and add a riser? or can i just leave that hole empty?

i have a cooler master elite 310

You should be fine with out having a stand off there my case is the same way there is no stand off for the bottom left hole. As long as the rest are in then you should be fine. I do have to ask where is the missing stand off located if it is in the middle then you might wont to drill a whole but if it is at one of the edges the you should be fine.
 
Unless I'm just not looking right. The board has 7 , three in the front, 3 in the middle and one in the back middle. The case looks to have all the matching standoffs holes.
 
if you are looking down into the case with the I/O ports closest to you. then the middle top hole.

BUT there is an insulated hole - riser fits there - just 2 inches below it.

To put it another way - trying to give you a better visualization - there is an insulated hole/riser on either side of the DDR3 slots 1 and 2. There is no riser directly to the left of the IDE.

It seems to be the only hole on the top edge of that board. The insulated hole on the right of the board is inline with the DDR3 hole.

The hole in the case is to far away, in other words for a wider board. If so yeah you could drill a hole. Just make sure its lined up right and a little smaller then the standoff threads so the standoff will catch and screw in. And make sure you clean all the metal shaving out so you wont get a short.
 
sorry stranglehold, i didn't see your first reply, i only saw fatback's.

you are right, the board has the grounded hole's where you listed. i'm not going to drill. seems more of a risk with the metal shavings.

also, i'd have to delve into the husband's toolbox/drillbits and whatnot. better to leave well enough alone.

I think it will be fine, just be careful when plugging in your 24 pin power connector and the IDE if you use it. Just hold the board with the tip of your finger when plugging them in so it wont flex to much.
