Do I Need Two Optical Drives?

On my current computer I have one drive for reading DVDs and CDs and one drive for burning CDs. Will a new DVD burner do all of that and save me from buying 2 drives? Like, will it read and write everything?(except for blu-ray obviously)

Most new drives canread write any and all of the major formats now. So yes, one drive would suffice.

But I, like a lot of other people, have 2 identical drives. The reson being because it takes considerably less time to do a one to one copy of a disc with 2 drives than it does to take an image of the disk onto your hard drive with one drive, then replace the CD and burn that image back to an ew CD, all using the same drive, that takes a bit longer...

Drives aren't expensive these days, so if you can, i suggest you get two fo the same drive, it looks nice (not having mis-matched colors and designs) and it will help in copying and burning

well, you could buy 5, if you really wanted, but dont forget to either buy sata ones or buy IDE controller cards (PCI) because you wont have that many ports...

You can get away with one, but I prefer two. For one, like dragon said, you can copy DVD's or CD's without having to make an image and store it on the HD in between. It's also useful if you want to keep a game in one, while using the other for burning music or something.
