Do icons take away from performance

When I fly the Microsoft Flight Sim ( FSX ) , do the icons in my taskbar or desktop affect performance ? I also have the NOD 32 anti-virus, and Malwarebytes that I have programed to exclude FSX. Are these things ok ? Are there any running programs that should be shut down?

Icons don't matter. However if you shut down any background tasks and applications, that will improve performance, as FSX is very CPU intensive.

Even when I put the exceptions in My Firewall, etc. should those also be disabled or does it matter?

No that doesn't matter. Both of them have a tiny footprint.
