Do other components affect FPS?

I know a Graphics/Video Card affects the FPS (Frames Per Second) you recieve, but does the Processor and RAM you have affect it too?

Yes, the other components also effects your FPS. I assume that you want to know if you would by some better hardware, that your FPS will go up or not? Yes, it will go up.

Do you know how much my FPS would go up with this change?

Pentium 4 1.8 Ghz -> Core 2 Duo E4400 Processor (2.0Ghz)
512MB DDR1 ram -> 2GB DDR2 RAM 667
40GB HDD -> 160GB HDD

Graphics card is staying the same, how much do you think my FPS will increase?
 
It should go up a good amount, seeing that you have a HUGE upgrade in processor and 4 times the ram. What graphics card do you have?

It depends on which game you play. If you play an old Dos game, it won't be any help. So, which game do you intend to play?

Yeh you will definitley notice a significant increase in your FPS, however if you have a weak GFX card this could bottleneck the system.
 
That setup will see a huge Increase in FPS.

The core2duo's Architecture compared to just standard P4's is quite a large technological advancement.

That system will perform Excellent.
 
I only have a Geforce FX 5200oc at the moment. :\ I know its a terrible card for the system i'm hoping to get a 8600GTS asap.


Zangetsu: Half-life 2, CS: Source, Counter-Strike 1.6 too though ^_^ Will i see a change in FPS in 1.6 too?

Hi Dazzeerr,

Due to your RAM (and bit of your CPU) you will see a bit of difference. But not much. Because, the main problem is your GPU. If you upgrade it to a 8600GTS(don't forget to change the motherboard), then you'll notice the big difference.
 
You will defiantly see a up in FPS for practically all modern day games. With a new processor, ram, and GPU your whole computer should be running faster and smoother.
