Do PCI cards work in PCI-X slots?

I have no USB 2 on my workstation and have only PCI-X slots spare and one PCI taken up by the sound card.

Will a PCI USB 2 card work in a PCI-X slot I've heard they do but the info about PCI-x is full or jargon. I want to make sure before I buy one of these cards.

Ok thanks guys I would add a USB 2 front panel if I had USB 2 sockets on the motherboard the only way is with a USB 2 pci card the pci card I'm getting has a USB 2 sockets out the back and one that is internal for adding a front panel, amazing how slow a USB 1 socket is why Tyan chose to only have 3 USB 1 sockets on a high performance board is really odd.

That is odd! Have you checked in your BIOS to actually select/activate USB 2 on your motherboard? My BIOS has a setting where you can choose USB 1 or 2, and it's from 2003. A newer board should have USB 2 on by default, especially one that sports PCI-X.
