Do some PSU's requuire a bigger case? (specific example enclosed!) :-D

:eek: Hello. I am going to attempt a first build....

I'm getting an eVGA 256-P2-N567 Geforce 7900GT KO Superclocked 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card which requires 500 watts for sli....

I've only used a 350W supply before and even had small trouble fitting it into a case I had in the past... I do know that the 500W PSU is somewhat larger...

I was hoping to fit a Antec SmartPower 2.0 SP-500 ATX12V 500W Power Supply into a COOLER MASTER Centurion 5 CAC-T05-UB Black /Blue Aluminum Bezel , SECC Chassis ATX Mid Tower Computer Case.

Will I be able to safely fit the PSU along with all my other goodies no problems? Or will I need a different sized case? any examples?

Actually, just because the PSU is more powerful, doesn't mean in any way that it is larger. All you have to look for is the fact that if your case is atx you need an atx power supply. It is all standardized for reasons such as this.

Excellent, great video card with a pretty good psu and case. Too be honest though if you are going sli with those cards get a better psu. It may require at least 500 watts, but you always want to have more power then is required.
 
I'm almost certain that 1000 watt PSUs are bigger, and I've heard of people having problems fitting them into a CM Stacker 830. You shouldn't have to worry about that though.

Well some PSU's are longer, but like my 600watt psu is really short. And the only reason people that people normally have trouble fitting them is because of things like blow hole fans and stuff, but you should be fine.

And it...well, actually, it didn't fit perfectly. I don't know if it was a problem with the PSU or what, but the holes for screws didn't line up perfectly. Either way, it wasn't too long or anything like that. Of course, there's a standard that power supplies are suppose to follow.

Even if it is larger, it should only be so by depth, and very few power supplies are longer than your average "cubeish" ones.

Hmm, thats weird. You should try and compare your psu to a different one, see if the wholes in the psu are just off a little or whether its the case. That is weird though, I have never had an issue like that.
 
Yeah... I was going to stick one of my older ones in this case, but I didn't have one laying around at the time... So, it could be the case, or it could be the PSU :P I don't really care, though. I managed to get 3 screws in it and I don't plan to move the case around, so it's plenty secure.

Lol, thats the way to do it. If you can make it fit it doesn't matter. Like I have a little case from a 6 year old micron pc we used to have, its micro atx, but all the micro atx psu's are crap, so the dimensions are big enough for an atx psu, so I was gonna just move some crap around and cram an atx psu in there and paint the case and stuff. But never got around to it, the case is still in the garage.
