Do you have to match up the SODIMM, SO-DIMM, Small Outline DIMM, or SDRAM part?

Do you have to match up the [SODIMM, SO-DIMM, Small Outline DIMM, or SDRAM] NON-ECC UNBUFFERED part?

Hello All:)

I don't understand what is going on, I matched up everything else correctly:(
200 pins, DDR2, memory size appropriate to specifications, ~MHz

I just got more RAM for an upgrade, but it does not fit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?

Please help:D

OK so what RAM have you got at the moment then, tell us the type, speed and whether it's ECC buffered or not.

If you currently have a 2GB DDR2 SODIMM which is Non-ECC for example, then you need to find another DDR2 SODIMM Non-ECC stick to go with it (capacity, ie - the GBs, doesn't matter).

You cannot match up ECC and Non-ECC RAM I don't think.

Hope this answers your question.

Hi Spirit,
Nice to meet you!

In the RAM sticks, you know how there is a slot in the center on the pin side?
-----------| |------------------------
|...............| |.................................|
---------------------------------------

I measured the distance to the slot.
Current RAM: The slot is 1 1/8" from the closest end.
Wrong RAM: The RAM that I got is 5/8" from the closest end.

What went wrong with how I picked out the RAM hardware?
How do you know which is the RIGHT RAM to get?

This is all that my system manual says for the
dell latitude d610 specs:

DDR2 dual channel 400 MHz/533 MHz (independent 64-bit memory data channels)

can this:
1GB PC2-5300 memory ram laptop sodimm DDR2 667MHz upgrade 200 pin notebook
be used for:
DDR2 dual channel 400 MHz/533 MHz (independent 64-bit memory data channels)

RAM can be tricky, but it should work if it is 200 pin DDR2. It will not work if it is 240 pin DDR2. Just be sure to get memory from a quality brand like gskill, kingston, patriot, crucial or the like. Stay away from store brands.

Wolfeking,

Yes, that's what I thought too!!!!

But when I got the 1GB PC2-5300 laptop memory sodimm DDR2 667MHz upgrade 200 pin RAM, it will not fit in the computer???? This RAM was the wrong RAM. I measured the distance to the slot.
Wrong RAM: The RAM that I got is 5/8" from the closest end.

The RAM that I currently have in the computer now that will fit is--
Current RAM: The slot is 1 1/8" from the closest end.

I do not understand what is going on. Do you have any ideas why this may have happened?

Wolfeking,
Holy Crud. My gosh man, how is that possible? How is it that my computer manual of specifications says I use DD2, and then only DD3 will fit?

It doesn't make sense!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do you think that its possible for a computer who works on computers to physically change something like that -- because I got the laptop used, and so this is entirely possible for such a thing to happen if they had changed the innards around somehow...

I am an expert at desktops, but I know just about dittly squat about laptops, so I really don't know if such a thing is possible. You'd have to change the motherboard for that, or sauter in a new peice or something?

I just now got out my digital camera. I don't understand it, it is practically brand new, barely used -- only several months old, and now I am having a problem with it. I am unable to take a picture now. Something about a "lens error". My brand new camera just went tits up!!!!!!! Argh!

Here is a picture of the wrong RAM card size that I have:
http://www.google.com/imgres?q=lapt...w=200&start=0&ndsp=10&ved=1t:429,r:7,s:0,i:94

Notice how both RAM in this picture are DDR2. Take note that the RAM on the left have a different length to the slot than the one on the right.

Stranglehold,
Wow, I really needed that picture comparsion. That says everything. This helps tremedously. Now I just have to figure out why I have a DDR3 slot in my computer and the descrepancy of what the computer manual of specifications says!

Captain Kirk

your reading our responses wrong. Your D610 is by no means a DDR3 computer. It was built years before DDR3 was invented. It is either DDR1 or DDR2. I bet on DDR2 as the 620 and 630 are DDR2 also. Do you have a link to the exact memory you bought? That would help a lot more. Either that, or a direct picture of exactly what you have ,not a google image either, actually take a picture of what arrived.

Okay, I figured it out.
I opened up the computer, took out the RAM and wrote down ALL of the numbers. I even wrote down the numbers on the board itself underneath the RAM sticks.
When you go to the Bios, it does not say the motherboard number.
In system information, it says that my computer is a "D600".

But I just used a software program to test the hardware.
The software puts my computer at a C600 instead.
And this makes more sense, since the computer manual for the C600 coincides with the numbers and writing on the RAM sticks, and explains why the D600 DDR2 RAM upgrade does not fit!!!!!!!

I looked on the RAM stick so I know that it is SDRAM and 144 pin, but that is all that I really know.

QUESTION 1
What type of RAM do I use for the Dell Latitude c600? Is it DDR 3? And I want 100 MHz?

QUESTION 2
If I was going to look for new RAM to get, what are the KEY things that I want to look for to make sure that it is matched up correctly?

Example: [So-Dimm, DD2, #MHz] = key vital things to match for getting "correct" RAM

Captain Kirk

Latitude C600's take SD-RAM.

Is this your laptop?

Or this this your laptop:

Or is this your laptop:

All three take a different kind of RAM.

This is my laptop. If all 3 of these pictures IS a dell latitude c600, can you please tell me what the other name or part thereof is called to distinguish the difference between them?

P.s.
The question on my threads page was not highlighted, so I assumed that no one had replied. I accidently clicked on it and found out that this was not the case. I don't understand what the highlighted ones mean.

How do I know if I got a reply on a thread?

First, please stop asking this. I already answered you three times on how to distinguish when you have a new post in a thread.

Second, no. The laptops I posted are not the same. The first is a Dell C-Series (what you have) and takes PC-133 RAM. The second is a D600 (which takes DDR RAM), and the third is a D610 (which takes DDR2 RAM).
