hi all, i just wondering is it worth to get a 18x or 20x dvd burner (instead of normal 16x ones)...as far as i know the dvds on the market are only support 16x speed max...any coments? :)

if your hard drive has any fragmentation on it at all, it wont even be able to burn discs at 16x.......

i've got a 10,000rpm sata hard drive, and unless i create an image and burn it to disc straight away (disc-to-disc copies) my drive can hardly ever keep up with 16x.

just something to consider, since you can get a 16x for $50, and the 18 and 20x are usually a bit more.

oh...i do have some fragmentations on my hard disks....and i only have 3gig free space on my c: now....so would my computer able to use a dvd burner (not necessarily at 16x though)

Most media is only rated at 16x, I havent seen any 20x media.

I would just go with an 18x burner, the difference really isnt that great. As for the free space, if you want to encode videos or anything, you will need at least as much free hard drive space as there is space on the DVD (around 4.7GB).

18x and 20x (i haven't actually seen any 20x) write the higher speed on 16x media

at least the samsung and plextors do

i don't think there's such thing as 18x rated media

It depends on how often you write stuff to dvds, if only occasionally then you wont mind waiting an extra minute. If more than twice daily then get the faster speeds, but don't bother if the price difference is large.

No it's not worth it. Take the extra money from the cheaper, slower drive and spend it on quality media. You'll be happier in the long run. Besides, what's a couple more minutes.... I know I'm not THAt busy.
