Do you think this will work?

So here's what I'm planning on doing and I need to know if it will work and if not then I need some advice. So when I bought my PC I wasn't thinking and I installed Windows 7 32 bit. Now 6 months later I've used 1/2 a terabyte and realize I'm not using all of my RAM. What I now want to do is upgrade to 64 bit without losing everything on my hard drive. Now what I want to do is buy a new hard drive, install 64 bit on it, and boot from that hard drive but still use programs on the other hard drive (that are compatible). Will this work or is there an easier way to do it?

You will have to install all your programs again. You can't upgrade from 32bit to 64 bit and save your programs. It's fresh install time.
 
You'd have to reinstall the programs. You won't be able to just run them because all the registry settings and whatnot are on the other installation.
 
Johnb35 is right.You cannot upgrade from 32-bit to 64-bit.It's once thing when upgrading from one 32-bit OS to second newer 32-bit OS,but you CANNOT upgrade 32-bit OS to 64-bit OS.
You will need to do what johnb35 told you.Format your HDD,install Windows 7 64-bit and all your programs again.
