i have a laptop and i saw at best buy that all of there computers were plugged in and didnt have any batterys. they said if it is going to be on all day to remove the battery once charged. to prolong the batterys life. what do you guys feel on the matter would it be ok to remove it once charged or should i just leave the battery in? i have a dell inspiron 6000 with a 9 cell battery.

well i would just leave it in. but i think the reason they are doing that cause of the heat laptops produce and that might damage the battery but i would just the leave the battery in even if its charged all the way up.

Only makes sense if they are talking about use of the battery. Having the battery in a hot laptop can slowly shorten the life, but it's meant to be used. Having it sit out will keep it cooler, but will also drain it since there is no current going through it.

When you store batteries, you need to make sure they always keep a minimum charge, and a constant safe temperature. If they are stores with the wrong charge, they can die just a quickly, or if the temp is wrong, they also die fast.

My mom's kitchen laptop is ALWAYS plugged in (why it's deemed the "kitchen laptop" it's always plugged in at the kitchen) and the battery is never removed. Had it over 2 years now, and the battery works fine. Sometimes I take it to the couch to watch a movie, but not often.

With older batteries, storing a battery at half charge or 3/4 charge was recommended. But with newer batts, they like having the full charge- no need to drain them anymore before charging. As for Best Buy or any retailer taking them off... Well it's a sales thing, it makes the laptop seem very light so people will buy them. Another thing is that they dont want people stealing those batteries also.

I never thought of that. Weight in laptops is a selling point. How did you get so smart lol
