Do you use your laptop at University?

Do you use your laptop at uni/school/college etc?

If you do, what do you use it for and what software do you use?


No one in my lectures uses one and i would feel a bit stupid being the only one. I like the idea of being able to structure my notes better but the only thing that worries me is battery life when not being able to plug into an AC socket.
 
It always sounds like a good idea to use one, but in reality barely any one in my classes use them. We have computers in all the classrooms where we would need a computer, and a lot of times our professors don't want us using them during class time when their giving lectures or were working on classwork.

When I had my laptop during college, the only time I really used it was during breaks or whenever I was bored.
 
I see a couple of people using them in my classes. Most of the time however they are 14 inch macs, which makes them totally easy to carry around in a small bag. I use mine whenever the football team has study table. I take it to the library, copy my notes onto my computer, type papers, and do various e-assignments my teachers assign. Other than that I play my few video games I can and surf the web. I like my laptop. But it seems to be like you can't beat the tried and true method of studying.
 
I had mine every day for the 2 years i had it i loved it becuase when the teacher got a little boring i could go to cf...
 
I mostly use mine at college becuase I can't read my notes:) For battery life... I buy other batteries. It's a simple, easy way to combat the horror of running out in the middle of a lecture (almost happened).
 
lol kof..... ive been in college for 3 years and while i use my 3 tower computers at home, i dont have a use for a laptop, which i dont even own... I may need one when I transfer to my next university but i dont need one right now.... paper and pen are always user friendly
 
its great for taking notes....unless you have to draw something like a graph or a picture. depends what classes you are using it for i guess
 
For classes I can take notes in (IE where you don't need special symbols or anything) I use my laptop. For other classes, I still take my laptop and usually have it running to...um...keep me busy :P

Thats where our school differs, since a lot of our classes dont let you use laptops when the teacher is lecturing, mainly because we usually dont have to take notes.
 
Being an IT person helped to becuase i could type my notes or even try the examples as the teacher was talking other classes generally you saw at least 2 laptops and teacheres dont care as long as you have your sound muted and didnt distract everyone
 
I use one in all my subjects except maths, because it's quite hard to sketch a graph in Paint! School for a tenner give you internet access, albeit CF is blocked. :(
 
I have a macbook but i have never used it in lessons. i think i will try it this year and see how things go.
