That's Microsoft Word's new file format for documents (since Microsoft Word 2007). You'll need either Office 2007 or newer, or Microsoft's compatibility pack for older versions of Microsoft Office, or something else if you don't use Microsoft Office. The .docx is supposed to replace the older .doc. Do you have Microsoft Office or do you use something else (OpenOffice, Word Perfect, etc)?
(I don't personally like .docx very much)
