does a mac see NTFS???

a friend of mine wants to buy one of my external WD my books (500gig). he has a MAC laptop and i'm just wondering if the mac laptop will recognize the WD HDD and its NTFS file system???????

it will hook up with either USB or firewire.

It can read NTFS but it cannot write anything to it.
Mac's are usually more compatible with the old FAT32 file system than NTFS.

However, if your friend is going to buy the HD they should wipe it and reload the file system on it anyway.

ok cool, as long he can use it to READ in the beginning, thats fine.
after he's watched a few HD movies i'm sending with the drive he can format it to MAC land format.
