I have had a PC based security system for several years and it works fine local, I need some information to be able to link the PC to the internet so I can view the security camera remotely.

The software that came with the DVR says I can do it but it doesn't say How to do it. The PC does have internet but I've only used it for updates.

Does any have a PC based security system with internet viewing?

Thanks

never seen it for internet viewing though i think it exist. they do have it for cell phones and i would have to think you could access the cell phone from on line. I don't have one. A family member is getting one installed now from one of the local companys.

Static IP?

In the same frame as my question,, What does or what is a static IP?

My internet provider say I need a Static IP to remote view my security cameras.

I'm just interested in how it works..........

Well.........nobody else replied. others are more qualified to comment.

from a hobby standpoint the static does not change. Dynamic does. You pay for this with the provider. its not free. If your running for example a FTP server and im over seas and trying to access my computer from else where if the IP changes (dynamic) i will not access because it changed. the static is locked. You bought that IP. You could use dyndns.com that will lock you in. just don't ping there site or they will shut you down. I think the free will work fine.

On the other hand i have seen others that have replied how to create i static ip i think here.
Didn't understand it though because of confusion on my part. My question is to anybody watching do you have to buy a static from manufacture or can i make this happen. thats the impression i got. Or why change it unless ya have it in the first place. Ive always used dyndns for remote software and FTP. my dynamic ip has not changed in over a year.
Any comments :

Does your system have a stand alone viewer program to access the cameras? If it does then the easiest solution is to use something like LogMeIn Hamachi to create a VPN. Join the VPN on both the computer running the cameras and the other computer running the remove viewer software. Put the IP address that Hamachi gives into the remote viewer software and it should connect to it via the VPN and allow you to view the cameras anywhere.

I have done this for several bar owners in the area.
