does anybody happen about drivers after an OS reinstall?

hi computer people.
good to see you.

does anybody happen to know if you install drivers, then reinstall windows and the driver folders are still physically there on the drive, would this affect your drivers in any way if you were to "reinstall the same drivers", overwriting the file folders of the old drivers?

can't get my drivers to all work:eek:

yes, i understand that it would make it better and reduce the chance.....

but do you know IF it "would" make a difference?

like on a fresh install, if i were to install all drivers and didn't go about the process the correct way, or in the proper order, and installed many other drivers that i did not need, would i be in the exact same spot that i am now?

the program doesn't do anything:
ERROR
"please select the target drive to test"

"short test"
"extended test"
FAIL "please select the target drive to test"

Plus if you do a clean install. Download all your current drivers first and save them on a disk or something. Then you can just load them after the install. When installing drivers, install the chipset driver first, after that it doesn't really matter the order. I usually do the chipset, video, Lan, sound, USB then any left over ones depending on your hardware.

though when StrangleHold said that, i started to think that he might be right.
however, i used to think that driver installation order does not matter.
i didn't think the order would, but the chipset SOUNDED big.

thanks voyagerfan99, this helps to narrow the process down a bit.
i'm getting closer to "pinpointing" the problem by deductive reasoning...
since i don't know the answer or the proper way and setps involved for the driver installation process.

0. Download the needed drivers and save them somewhere safe...

1. Erase entire hard disk drive with KILL DISK (if you want)...

2. Install Windows normally on UNPARTITIONED SPACE.It should create one single partition which uses the entire drive automatically before the installation starts...

3. Install drivers in this order: chipset,graphics,sound,LAN (if any),WLAN (if any) and so on (if any).Be sure to restart the computer after each driver has been installed...

no order install sequence: 1 Vote

so far, i've done 0-2 on your list.
number 3 i did as voyager suggested.

Extract the wireless driver you downloaded.
Click Start, then right-click My Computer (or Computer) and click Manage.
In the Computer Management window, on the left, click Device Manager.
Click the + sign in front of the device category for which you wish to install the driver.
Right-click the device, and select Update Driver. The Hardware Update Wizard opens.
For using Windows Update, select No, not this time and click Next.
Select Install from a list or specific location (Advanced), and click Next.
In the window for search and installation options, select Search for the best driver in these locations, and select the Include this location in the search check box.
Click Browse, and navigate to the folder that contains the driver files. Click OK when this folder is selected.
Back in the Hardware Update Wizard, click Next. Windows will search for the driver and install it automatically. When the installation is complete, click Finish.

great advice.

i think i may HAVE all the drivers, now it just a matter of "configuring" them.
only 1 error in device manager. however, this is the modem, and i don't use the modem,
so it looks like i got all the drivers. that's not the problem.

by the way, do you happen to know how to get to the "let windows configure your network setting"?

As long as you don't have any 3rd party application installed like the proset software then windows automatically controls the wireless.

You install Windows first then the drivers. You can't do it the other way around. No, the drivers won't still be there after you install Windows.
 
John howdy. thanks for making it back.

right now, i have the intel pro installed.
when i uninstall it, there are now 2 errors in the device manager:(

using a virtual simulator, how do you get to this specific spot:?:)
the "let windows configure your network setting"?

1. uninstall intel pro
{or from scratch} install all drivers EXCEPT intel pro

2. ?????????

3. ??????????

When you install the Intel wireless driver, do a custom install and don't install the Proset software. Or install the drivers manually like I mentioned several posts ago.

Honestly, it's not that hard. You're making it far more difficult than it really is.
 
I've never known anybody make such a fuss over installing drivers.

You should have left the Intel Pro whatever it is on there and use that software to connect to a wireless network.

you can't install the Intel wireless driver by itself, it IS the same thing as Proset software.
they are not separate.
it is 1 install file.

i have install the drivers manually...
3 windows installs ago.
this is not new information or something that i already have been doing --

have you ever heard of windows configuring it instead?
this is what i was hoping you'd know about.
