I need to find a used or new Athlon K7 1000MHz 512K Slot A cpu.

CPU's

AMD-K7100MNR53B A

Trouble is I don't want to pay $200 for it. Why would dinosaur cost so much?

Anyone know where I could buy one a lot cheaper on the internet?

Try Ebay or a pc "bone yard" at some private run repair shop with some old boat anchors still onhand for parts! That's exactly what you have to do since you might get very, very fortunate and actually find one that is still good to even bother with as well as having a working fan on the hsf too!

Those were awkward trying to get unplugged however since the slide bracket can break all too easily. The plastic tends to get hardened and brittle from age including the board you intend to see it go on.

I looked on ebay and can't find anything.

No, but some people have a thing on older stuff. Some dude on here said somebody just paid 400 bucks for a FX 62.

Well if you guys can keep your eyes out for one on the internet and would let me know if you find one.

Also anyone in the in the USA if you could call your local computer shop stores and ask them for this CPU or if you have one I'll pay you through PayPal for you to ship it to me.

The reason for the high price is basically the same as why you see rather higher prices on PC100 and PC133 when found simply due to the overhead of keeping them instock! You're asking the vendor or speicialty shop(another place to consider) to keep them in the inventory while they could be cleared out for newer items instead.

I'd like to know where they're getting them from.

New in boxes never sold left for dead when discontinued by manufacturers. A wholesale distributer clears out old inventory like the next and some 3rd party scoops them up for those that still want to restore old systems. They get actioned off in bulk essentially.

The same applies to the old memory mentioned before. In the U.S. one law past requires manufacturers to provide support for products upto 10yrs. after they are marketed. They then turn to some wholesalers to continue sales on old stuff until the time limit is over.

Likewise about a year I caught XP Pro 64 seeing a $50- tab at amazon.com and pondered on whether or not to buy the OEM disk then. Now you look and see $135 upto almost $170 for the same even on amazon.

Not that small a dfference since we just missed each other when going to post. That's what the edit button is for! :P

The only time I came across any noticable difference with that small a difference was when placing a 500mhz AMD in a custom case against an old Dell with a 450mhz Intel cpu in that. The custom case seems to outperform the Dell every time with 98SE then seen on both. 512mb to 256mb of memory can see things like that.
