Does blocking off your other downloading torrents speed up say one torrent you really want to get quickly? I really wanted to watch the game tonight so I turned off the other downloading torrents and the one I wanted speeded up. This wasnt my imagination was it?

depends on how much kb you down at, lets say the torrent is healthy it will take maximum bandwidth but if you put another healthy one in the line it will share 50/50, also it really depends on the connection.
but usually in my case downloading torrent makes browsing impossible, varies on connection again.

Im confused to when people talk about Bandwith....i dont get what it is or what its for?

but anyway when i d/l a torrent i usualy find that pausing any other downloads i have going on makes the download i want the quickest download faster as obviusly its not downloading other things aswell.

its the same for me though patrick, when downloading torrents my internet browsing is very slow using Utorrent but i tried Azerus and even when dl a torrent on that my browsing isnt actualy that bad considering i have a 2mb broadband connection :(

If you have plenty of seeders availible (connected) then yes. This is common sense or atleast it should be. It will allow more bandwidth to be used by the other torrents by limiting. Slowing down your upload speed will also increase download speeds to a certain point. That is also known as a Leecher!
