Does McAfee AntiVirus Slow Up Computer (Follow Up Question)

As a result of an earlier thread I posted, I learned that my Norton's AntiVirus was slowing down my computer & switched to Nod32 which I've been very happy with.

Other members of my family currently have McAfee AntiVirus on their computers. Does that also significantly slow computers down as I don't want to advise them to switch unless it noticeably does? Thanks for your help.

I asked the same question when I first came here, and most peopled seemed to agree that yes, it does. Most of it is bloatware (useless).

NOTE: thats from what people said to my thread...I can vouch for it. However, I can vouch for AVG Free (most people will also suggest AVG or Avast)

I have used McAfee for two years now until 2 weeks ago when I got fed up with the loading times of it's anti virus and the waiting of the realtime file checking. This wasn't always the case so it must have become this way through an update.

I've now switched to AVG suite and the bootup time has been reduced by 30 seconds and no messages telling me that it's checking the file before it's allowed to open.

So yes, it did slow my computer down more so than AVG. We have to take a performance hit simply because we need to have realtime checking but McAfee went beyond what was acceptable.

it was using Mcaffe virusscan enterprise:)

i wouldnt use it because it is a resource hog.
