Does my Intel Pent 630, really compete with the Amd Altlon 3000+?

Yeah, I have an Intel Pent 630, 3.0ghz; Prescott core processor. And can the Amd Athlon 2.0ghz I think:confused: 3000+ processor, really comepete with it. say everything in the come is the same, just with the differences of processers. Would there be a differnces, say 3dmarks 05?

Have a look for yourself.

Mind you, in general single core Athlon 64's will excel in gaming, and Intel's in multitasking. Give the CPU101 thread a read too, for more in depth stuff.

The Newcastle core (socket 754) 3000 runs at 2 GHz. The Venice core (skt 939) runs at 1.8, although generally you'd be better off with a Venice.

3dmarks 05 don't really matter wich processor you have.

my friend have x850 video card with processor amd 64bit 3400+
while i have my dual core amd optron 165 oc'ed up to 2.5Ghz and the same video card.
funny enough we get simmilar scores on 3dmarks 05
well, i just built my computer with considerable amount of money too.

so i conclude the 3d marks are only depended on your video card...

Oh. Well I just kinda mentioned that. But in general.. Just wondering if there about the same. And ill have a look at that link.

i heard amd is better for gaming,
but since they are both single cores, i don't think you will find a big difference...

if you are thinking of getting a new cpu, you should consider a dual core, x2 series
x2 3800,x2 4200 and so on...

Amd is gaming biased. And no.. just a friend got this Amd, and im wondering whos is better. Lol. I have a better computer, WAY better, but just wondering what processer is better.

Keep in mind that the AMD Athlon64 3000+ is $120 from newegg, whereas the Pentium 630 is $178. Given the price difference, you'd expect better performance from the 630.

yes, from what i hear they are very similar performing processors... and intels only do better in multitasking with the help of hyperthreading i believe. either way, they do compete, and the major reason is because of the architecture of the athlon 64 chip.... ive found it to be quite similar to the fact that ddr400 2-2-2-5 ram would compete with ddr533 4-4-4-8 ram... of course benchmarks have been better for gaming with better timings and less frequency than they have been with more frequency and worse timings.

The 6XX series by intel is awsome i mean its the best they have came out with besides the extreme edition there dual cores really isn't to great and amd wins over the 3dmark05 and 06 it does make a big differnce on ur graphic card but without ur cpu/mobo u have nothing to run the graphics card so they do play apart in it but amd gets a better benchmark then intel any day and the 3000+ is supose to be equ. to a intel 3.0ghz but now with the hyper threading there might be some changes cause the hyper threading adds alot of proformace but if you disable the HT the 3000+ i would say is equal to the 630 p4.

Now about your sweet computer let me make some comments on that:). intel is great for multi taskign when it comes to gaming it rather flat out sucks see the benchmarks and reviews intel vs amd. bit however amd can only run one good app at a time without causeing slow down or to much hassle and time however amd cores are made for insane gmaing which leads to the benchmark reviews and so on. this one review at tomshardware.com (i think) did a review on intel vs amd and amd won without troubles.

Why the processor GHZ is so much differnt is cayse intel divids there clock speeds by 4 and yet amd divids it by 2 and intel has much shorter clock speeds and amd has a longer clock rate so it is able to go more things in 1 clock then what intel can do but intel is good for multi tasking cause of the shorter clock.

I do alot of multi tasking, with games running at the same time, lol. Like guildwars, im always running that in a wondow, searching the internet, listening to music and things like that. So.. Yeah. Either way i love my processor, mainly because ive never used any amd better then a sempron 1.5ghz, lol
