Does not recognize additional drives

When I click on "My Computer" to access my backup drive it is not recognized and it will not recognize my USB hard drive either when I plug it in. Disc manager will recognize the USB drive but not the internal backup drive. The BIOS does not recognize it either. I did not have any problems until I tried to hook up an external modem and add fax software. I am running Windows Server 2003 Enterprise. My master drive is ATA and the slave drive in question is a SATA. But like I said , I cannot access the USB drive either even though it is recognized through disc manager. Belarc recognizes the same. I get error messages when I reboot stating that certain drivers were not loaded but I cannot find anything in event viewer that helps. I find a performance library error but that is all. Any help would or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Go into your bios and make sure that Sata is enabled and is selected as IDE, not raid. Make sure the Sata driver is installed. Look in device manager for any yellow exclamation points meaning drivers needed.

Thanks for the help. After hours of eliminations, it turned out that the cable was bad. I guess it was a coincidence of timing that it happened at the time I was messing with the fax software. Thanks for your reply!
