Does not show cd drive

I have a laptop that does not show the cd drive in my computer and also will not read a cd or auto start a cd. This problem just started right after i wiped out a virus. Im running xp also. Thanks.
 
First off, go into the bios to make sure its detected in there. If it is, then look in device manager for driver issues. If everything looks ok in there then most of the time its just a matter of deleting the upper and lower filters to regain access to the drive. Look here....
