Does such a program exist?

This question is from my father. He is always scanning printed documents or faxed documents and would like to make some changes to them but without retyping the whole document. Is there any software that can be used to convert the jpeg into a word document for editing. Or any software that can help to scan typed text on a page into a word document.

Cheers

I know for a fact there are programs out there that can do it, but they accuracy isnt all that great, especially if things are hand written. I can't remember the name of the program(s) though.

Thanks, so there is a program for it. If the accuracy isnt great it will be substantially noticable when adding new text. We wont be needing to adjust anything handwritten.

It is just when we get faxed new contracts, conditions or clauses for renegotiation we must make it into a proper document and then locked pdf file. We only have this problem with faxes when there is no email available (yes i know there are still very professional people out there that do not use emails) Just trying to cut down time as we do all this work ourselves and are quite busy.

Next question any program names?

You need a good OCR program, ABBYY Fine Reader should do the job but as for price ??
