Does the i7 turbo work?

I've read a lot of complaints from people saying it flat out won't work, to problems where it boost it from say 2.66ghz to 2.8ghz when it should be boosted a lot more. Also since my i7 960 is overclocked will the turbo still work beyond my overclock?

The Turbo-Boost feaure is 'temperature-dependent'. Which means only if your CPU is running cool enough for the clock speed to be raised, then it will.

I think it's unneccessary anyways on i7's.. They can handle pretty much anything and a small boost like that I doubt could give you a world of difference

Not quite, multi threading just means that multi-threaded applications are mroe efficient with processor usage (afaik)

Well its possible for the boost to take the 920 from 2.66ghz to 3.46ghz, thats a nice jump.

I think he has it overclocked--the i7 920 only has one "turbo" mode where it raises the multiplier from 20x to 21x. You can't set it to 21x in the BIOS, but some motherboards allow you to use the 21x all the time through their Windows overclocking utilities (I have mine set at 195x20 at boot, and then the overclocking program starts at login and sets it to 195x21).
