Hey, guys. I've never built a computer before, but decided now's the time. I've got an old Compaq CQ5700F I'm using for light gaming, but it can barely do anything. I know I could upgrade it with a better CPU than the stock AMD 2.0Ghz, but nothing much more than that. There's no good slots for a video card, so I'm stuck with onboard graphics.

I got together (what I believe is) a good budget, but good gamer setup on Newegg, then looked everything back up on Amazon for nearly a couple hundred less. What I'm mostly going to be playing is Flight Simulator X with on a few modest addons; nothing that more serious players use. Just a couple nice planes and scenery, but that's it. Might also get BF3, but I'm not sure on that right now.

Here's the list of hardware I chose out. I didn't opt for an HDD or DVD drive since I'll be reusing my current ones. They're plenty good enough for me. Just tell me what you guys think of it, please! Also, last note....The video card is a PCI Express 3.0, but the board has a 2.0 x16 slot. I've read the 3.0's will work in the older slot, but please tell me if this is correct or not!

Your card will work fine in a 2.0 slot. Only a few of the really high end cards use the bandwidth of a 3.0 slot. Yours definitely wouldn't so it won't be any issue at all.

That should all be compatible. Maybe try and get a better GPU. 8GB of RAM might not be a terrible idea either.

Unfortunately, I don't have a very flexible budget, but what would you recommend for a better GPU? The power supply is only 430W, so I know it won't be SUPER powerful. I'm not looking to max out games, but just enjoy them more without stuttering and really low FPS.

As for the RAM, I've got another 2GB stick in my current computer I could salvage. It's the same make and model as the one listed, just smaller.

EDIT: Okay, so after a little more searching, I found the Radeon R7 260X that's better than my current choice. What do you guys think of that instead?

Yeah I'd toss in that 2GB stick.

That card should be good. It recommends a 500 watt PSU but I think you'd be fine with the 430 you have in there now. I'll wait for Okey to show up and give you a better answer.

Okay, thanks! I found a power supply calculator from Cooler Master and with everything I plan to be putting in the computer, it recommended a minimum 330W supply, so I think the 430W should be okay, too. I've heard nothing but good about Corsair supplies, so I'm crossing my fingers it'll work!

Your ok, the 260X pulls around 120W max under load. It would work but your about at the limit for future upgrades.

a 7750 and amd 6 core probably wont run flight simulator all that great, but not all that bad either. for the amount of money, which is under $400, id say yeah, its an alright build, so I voted yes. the 260x is a better gpu, but I know that flight simulator is a cpu raper. but if your not looking to max it out and just enjoy the game smoother, then you will be happy

Yeah, I'm not looking to max it out, just up the sliders a little more and throw in some good scenery. I know it's a CPU killer, but I would've though a 6 core (and I plan to get a better cooler, just pointing that out now....) plus a little OC up to 4.1-4.3Ghz would be pretty good.

My current computer has a 2.0GHz Athlon II 170u and the factory AMD Radeon 3000 video chip, but it'll run FSX fairly smoothly at my current settings (hardly any traffic, autogen scenery, etc). It's locked at 25FPS max, which I find to be pretty much perfectly acceptable since the human eye can't distinguish over 30, I believe.
